Grand prize

Anthony Jung (cello)

Anthony started learning cello at the age of 7. Having remained mostly casual in the early years, his

learning took a sharp turn after meeting Mr. Jinsun Choi in 2019. Under his guidance, Anthony quickly

improved and developed a deep passion for the instrument.

In 2021, Anthony became the principal cellist in the TMEA Middle School All-Region orchestra, which

served as a huge motivation for a sixth grader. Later accomplishments include first place winner of the

2022 American Protege International Concerto Competition, third place winner of the 2023 Vernell

Gregg Young Artist Competition, first place winner of the 2024 Collin County Young Artist Competition

(CCYAC) Junior String Division, and first place winner of the 2024 GDYO Philharmonic Concerto

Competition. Anthony’s orchestral experience involves Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra, California

Youth Symphony, 2025 California All-State High Schol Symphony Orchestra, and now San Francisco

Symphony Youth Orchestra. Summer enrichment programs he has participated in, at Idyllwild Arts

Academy and the Heifetz International Music Institute, have also nurtured his growth as a musician.

Outside music, Anthony is an enthusiastic basketball and tennis player. He also loves reading and

being out in nature. Anthony currently lives in North California and studies cello with Jonathan Koh.
